$800 worth First Aid purchased

This is what $800 of humanitarian aid looks like. Purchased with the money we raised at the last concert (thank you Andrey and Sergey for performing and to our amazing hosts: Zhenya and Andrey!)

We purchase American-Made CAT (Combat Application Tourniquet).  The same ones as used in the US Army.  We buy in bulk and at a discount, but unfortunately they are not cheap.

Sending to Ukrainian medics next week

What is a tourniquet?

A tourniquet is a device that plays a crucial role in emergency and trauma care. It is designed to stop the flow of blood through a vein or artery, typically by compressing a limb with a cord or tight bandage. This simple yet effective tool has been used for centuries, with its history dating back to as early as 600 B.C. during the time of Sushruta, an Indian surgeon.

The importance of good quality tourniquets cannot be overstated, especially in trauma care. High-quality tourniquets, like the Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) used by the US Army, are engineered to withstand extreme conditions and provide reliable performance when it’s most needed. These tourniquets are designed to be applied quickly and effectively, which can be the difference between life and death in cases of severe bleeding due to injuries such as gunshot wounds, deep cuts, or amputations.

Good quality tourniquets ensure that the necessary pressure is applied to stop bleeding without causing additional harm to the patient. They are made from durable materials that can maintain the required tension over time and are less likely to fail when compared to improvised or lower-quality options. In emergency situations, where every second counts, the reliability of a tourniquet can significantly impact the outcome of trauma care.

The use of these tourniquets by Ukrainian medics is a testament to the global understanding of the importance of quality medical supplies in saving lives. The humanitarian aid provided, which includes these life-saving devices, reflects a commitment to supporting those who are on the front lines of medical care in crisis situations.

As these tourniquets make their way to Ukrainian medics, they carry with them the hope and support of people from around the world, united in the common cause of preserving life and alleviating suffering in times of need.
