At Helping Hands for Ukraine, we are incredibly fortunate to have the steadfast support of Kate Kalmykov and her law firm, Greenberg Traurig. Kate, a valued member of our Board of Directors, and her firm have not only been financial contributors but also essential partners in our foundation and mission. Their recent donation of $3,000 helped fund our latest charity concert, but their contributions go far beyond monetary support.
Pro Bono Legal Services: Laying the Foundation for Helping Hands for Ukraine
When Helping Hands for Ukraine was still an idea, Kate and her team at Greenberg Traurig stepped up to handle the critical legal work involved in establishing our charity. From filing paperwork to securing our registration as a nonprofit, Greenberg Traurig provided pro bono services that were instrumental in getting us off the ground. This legal expertise allowed us to focus on what truly matters—providing aid and support to those in Ukraine.
Championing Humanitarian and Legal Aid
Kate and Greenberg Traurig have been champions for the Ukrainian people since the start of the crisis. The firm is deeply committed to offering both humanitarian and legal assistance to those affected by the war. On their website, they state, “As the world reacts to the crisis in Ukraine, Greenberg Traurig is here to advise our clients on issues involving sanctions, international trade, cybersecurity, and other legal ramifications.“
The firm’s immigration team has also been working tirelessly to provide pro bono legal services to Ukrainian refugees. So far, they have helped over 100 Ukrainian refugees in the United States file for Temporary Protected Status (TPS), employment authorization, and advanced parole. Their efforts in partnership with organizations like the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) have provided much-needed relief for displaced families.
Greenberg Traurig’s Global Commitment to Ukraine
Greenberg Traurig’s dedication to Ukraine extends far beyond legal services. They have committed over $2 million in humanitarian aid and financial donations to help those impacted by the war. Their Warsaw office has been especially active, with many of its attorneys and staff housing Ukrainian refugees and distributing essential supplies. Greenberg Traurig’s unwavering support for sanctions against Russia further highlights their commitment to justice and peace.
The firm’s involvement goes even deeper through their partnership with Avellum, a leading Ukrainian law firm. This collaboration has allowed Ukrainian lawyers to continue their careers while gaining international experience in Greenberg Traurig’s offices in London, Amsterdam, and Berlin.
A True Ally in Our Mission
Kate Kalmykov and Greenberg Traurig are not only generous sponsors but also true allies in our mission to bring medical aid and support to Ukraine. Their pro bono legal services were the foundation upon which Helping Hands for Ukraine was built, and their ongoing financial and humanitarian contributions continue to uplift our cause.
We are deeply grateful for Kate’s leadership, her firm’s unwavering support, and their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of Ukrainians.
